# Refinement

*Every strike strengthens the relic. No level is left to chance.*

**Refinement** permanently increases the refine level of compatible equipment.

EldenRO's ordinary forge uses guaranteed progression: when the required **Forge Runes** and Zeny are available, the selected refine step succeeds.

{% hint style="success" %}
Ordinary Refinement does not fail, break the item or reduce its refine level.
{% endhint %}

## Refinement at a Glance

| Rule                    | Current Value                 |
| ----------------------- | ----------------------------- |
| Maximum ordinary refine | **+25**                       |
| Success chance          | **100%**                      |
| Main materials          | Forge Rune \[1]–\[8]          |
| Final material | Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone |
| Zeny per step           | Destination level × 10,000    |
| Special relic path | Somber progression up to +10 |

## Where to Refine

The ordinary service is available from:

| Blacksmith        | City        |
| ----------------- | ----------- |
| Hollgrehenn       | Prontera    |
| Aragham           | Morocc      |
| Antonio           | Payon       |
| Fredrik           | Alberta     |
| Lambert           | Juno        |
| Manthasman Pruhag | Einbroch    |
| Fulerr            | Lighthalzen |

All of these blacksmiths use the same ordinary rules.

***

## Equipment Requirements

The item must be equipped before speaking with the blacksmith.

The service can select occupied equipment slots such as:

* Head.
* Body.
* Left Hand.
* Right Hand.
* Cloak.
* Boots.
* Accessory 1.
* Accessory 2.

The ordinary forge rejects:

* Empty equipment slots.
* Items already at +25.
* Targets lower than or equal to the current refine.
* Targets above +25.
* Weapon Level 4 relics.
* Equipment that does not support ordinary Refinement.

Weapon Level 4 relics belong to the separate Somber path.

***

## How Refinement Works

1. Equip the item.
2. Speak with an ordinary blacksmith.
3. Select the equipment slot.
4. Enter a target refine level.
5. Review every missing step and its cost.
6. Confirm the process.
7. The smith performs each refine step in order.

The smith can refine several levels during one interaction.

For example, an item at +6 may target +10. The service calculates +7, +8, +9 and +10 separately.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Prepare the full cumulative amount of Runes and Zeny before confirming a multi-level target.

The service processes the sequence one step at a time.
{% endhint %}

## Forge Rune Progression

| Destination Levels | Required Material | Quantity Pattern |
| ------------------ | ----------------------------- | ---------------- |
| +1 to +3           | Forge Rune \[1]               | 2, 4, 6          |
| +4 to +6           | Forge Rune \[2]               | 2, 4, 6          |
| +7 to +9           | Forge Rune \[3]               | 2, 4, 6          |
| +10 to +12         | Forge Rune \[4]               | 2, 4, 6          |
| +13 to +15         | Forge Rune \[5]               | 2, 4, 6          |
| +16 to +18         | Forge Rune \[6]               | 2, 4, 6          |
| +19 to +21         | Forge Rune \[7]               | 2, 4, 6          |
| +22 to +24         | Forge Rune \[8]               | 2, 4, 6          |
| +25                | Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone | 1                |

Within each Forge Rune tier:

* First level requires 2 Runes.
* Second level requires 4 Runes.
* Third level requires 6 Runes.

Each complete tier therefore requires **12 Runes**.

## Zeny Cost

Each refine step costs:

> **Destination Refine Level × 10,000 Zeny**

| Destination | Zeny Cost |
| ----------: | --------: |
|          +1 |    10,000 |
|          +5 |    50,000 |
|         +10 |   100,000 |
|         +15 |   150,000 |
|         +20 |   200,000 |
|         +25 |   250,000 |

A complete journey from +0 to +25 costs:

> **3,250,000 Zeny**

***

## Complete +25 Requirement

Starting from +0, reaching +25 requires:

| Material                      |     Total |
| ----------------------------- | --------: |
| Forge Rune \[1]               |        12 |
| Forge Rune \[2]               |        12 |
| Forge Rune \[3]               |        12 |
| Forge Rune \[4]               |        12 |
| Forge Rune \[5]               |        12 |
| Forge Rune \[6]               |        12 |
| Forge Rune \[7]               |        12 |
| Forge Rune \[8]               |        12 |
| Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone |         1 |
| Zeny                          | 3,250,000 |

Total ordinary Forge Runes:

> **96 Forge Runes**

***

## Example: +6 to +10

| Step | Material        | Quantity |    Zeny |
| ---- | --------------- | -------: | ------: |
| +7   | Forge Rune \[3] |        2 |  70,000 |
| +8   | Forge Rune \[3] |        4 |  80,000 |
| +9   | Forge Rune \[3] |        6 |  90,000 |
| +10  | Forge Rune \[4] |        2 | 100,000 |

Total required:

* 12 Forge Rune \[3].
* 2 Forge Rune \[4].
* 340,000 Zeny.

***

## Somber Relics

Special relics use a separate path intended to reach **+10**.

Their material family contains:

* Somber Smithing Stone \[1]–\[9].
* Somber Ancient Dragon for +10.

The ordinary +25 blacksmith does not process this path.

***

## Quick Guide

1. Equip the intended item.
2. Confirm that it belongs to ordinary Refinement.
3. Choose a target above the current refine.
4. Prepare the cumulative Forge Runes.
5. Prepare the cumulative Zeny.
6. Review the selected slot and target.
7. Confirm the process.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Guaranteed success still consumes every required Rune and Zeny permanently.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://eldenro.gitbook.io/wiki/equipment/refinement.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
